On Thursday, January 17, the County of Macoupin was one hundred
years old. Originally the territory from which Macoupin County was
finally taken was a part of Greene County. The legislature which
passed the act creating the County of Macoupin was in session at
Vandalia, the state capital at that time. The act was signed by
Governor Ninian Edwards, January 17, 1829.
