I used the larks head for it's simplicity in a very tight space and to keep both lines nice and parallel on the pulley. Yes there is a single point of failure

I agree with Dan, you could fill the ballast with water but I wouldn't tow it any where. The trailer is designed to pull the boat out of the water and support
