Its the small world syndrome working here, but then you might expect
this from a group which draws together like minded people.
In Europe we have XMM where we (Leicester University and others)
provided the focal plane CCD's (9 per detector) and now with Penn
State University who provided some focal plane detectors for AXAF, we
have SWIFT the next Gamma ray burst satellite in final stages of
construction in Goddard. This uses Wolter type 1 mirrors with CCD at
the focus. Sorry though no gratings ;-)
Funny, I was walking through GSFC and they have a LX-200 14 inch set
up as a star simulator for optics alignment. Sort of deja vue
