      Evolution 2003: INTERVENTION
      9, 10, 11 October
      Leeds, UK

Evolution is an annual international media arts festival which accompanies
the Leeds International Film Festival. Evolution explores the historical and
contemporary use of new technologies in the arts alongside interrelated
      cultural issues.

Evolution 2003: INTERVENTION will look at how artists interfere with,
influence and punctuate mass communication systems and the sealed
      architectures of media technologies.

A range of pioneering artists, filmmakers, theoreticians and curators
from around the world will be brought together to take part in a 3-day
programme of lecture demonstrations, discussions, live performances and
      film/video screenings.

This years programme will feature work by Nam June Paik, Vera Frenkel,
Takahiko Iimura, Bill Viola , Cory Arcangel, Dan Graham, Wojciech
Bruszewski, Antfarm, Antonio Muntadas, Woody and Steina Vasulka,
Ben Rubin, Kevin and Jennifer McCoy, David Hall and rare archived work
      from the Kitchen, New York.

A programme of introduced film screenings will precede the 3 day
programme as part of an educational initiative with Huddersfield University
and Leeds College of Art and Design. The films will target local students,
artists, curators and creative professionals and introduce the themes
      underpinning Evolution 2003 : INTERVENTION.
