About the course
Develop your portraiture and figure drawing and painting skills through a wide range of medium and techniques. Learn how to portray character as well as a likeness.
What and how do you learn?
Through instruction and tutor demonstrations, learn and improve your drawing and painting skills, techniques and knowledge of the human face and figure.
Learn about proportions and how to get a likeness.
Learn about the different aspects of presenting the figure and the messages this sends out to the viewer.
Explore the colour mixes of skin and hair tones and the effects of light on figures and clothing.
The course will focus on investigating methods, materials and working from photographs of family, friends and acquaintances.
Study will include body language, line, tone, colour, rhythm, texture, shape, tone and composition.
Experiment with a variety of drawing and painting materials.
Gain confidence with the use of colour. Produce original works by developing them from your own sketches, photographs, studies and direct observations.
Learn about contemporary and historical art practice and how both of these inform your own work

This course runs on Tuesday afternoons. The start dates and session times are as follows:

* (No class Tuesday 28 May - half term)
* Time: 13.00 - 15.00 pm
* Number of sessions: 10

A practicing artist and a member of Leeds Fine Artists, www.leedsfineartists.co.uk<http://www.leedsfineartists.co.uk> Geraldine has 30 years' experience of teaching beginners through to degree and post-graduate level. A landscape and portrait painter, she has work in collections in Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy and the USA. Portrait commissions include eminent members of the clergy, academic and medical world plus private commissions. She gives talks and demonstrations on all aspects of her work.
