Today, Frank Dupin led nine other LRCC club
members and paddled from Morrison Bridge Rd on the Lower
Little River which borders Ft. Bragg, down to the next
bridge, ? Neil/Shaw Rd. a distance of approximately over
9 miles. The water was low and the only gauging
station is listed on the NC Water Table site under Cape
Fear basin called "Flat Creek at Inverness" which is
on Manchester Rd and approximately .5 miles from the
Lower Little River. This gauge read .74 ft with a
whopping stream flow of 4.2 cfs. We had two dams to
contend with and several trees to go over. The first dam,
about .7 mile into the trip is floatable if the water
level was up but we dragged boats on river left. With
water level this low there were several real nice
gravel bars for breaks and lunch. The second dam is
about 8 miles into the trip and requires a portage on
river right. These are huge dams from a bygone era. The
wind made paddling brisk and with a little chill.
Wildlife seen were birds, to include owls, kingfishers,
various types of ducks, and a turtle, who was on his back
and Sandy rescued. In addition to Frank, other
paddlers were Jim DePree, Don & Sandy Meece, Jim & Mia
McDermott and both their dogs, Charles West, who by the way
found some beaver sticks, Diane Smith, Bob Guckel, and
      Rudolph Floyd.
