- From where I sat, in cold wet clothes in three inches of dirty water in my kayak, I just want to say that Mitch's description of James Creek is accurate as far as it goes. He left out the fact that even the wildlife abandoned this creek. The beavers have ignored it probably because it's too hard for them to navigate. The deer can't get close enough to drink and snakes fear getting caught up in the brambles. He did mention the lack of waterfowl (they can't see the water from the air). This is one of those streams (upper reaches of Hitchcock Creek and Drowning Creek, Turnbull Creek, and Juniper Creek on Ft. Bragg all come to mind) that causes me to wonder whether our club promotes masochism.
