Drowning Creek Paddle 3/3/01
- 15 paddlers and three dogs braved impending
showers and were rewarded by some fascinating currents
with eddies and multiple bump overs and maybe two
portage/pullovers. The rain came and went and the temp stayed in the
50s making it bearable. The treefall was reminiscent
of the way the rest of the Lumber used to be before
they cleared it up. Distance posted at the start was
9.2 miles with a paddle time of 4 hours 42 minutes.
We made it in about 4:20 with a half hour lunch stop
on a muddy sand bank during which Jim M. showed off
his tarp rigging skills. Paddlers were: Mike and Liz
Britt, Bob Guckel, Jim and Mia McDermott, Renate
Schuchardt, Charles West, Pam Cline, Jim DePree, Dorcas and
Myron Whitley, Lynda and Wayne Charles, Frank Dupin,
and a new member Gary (sorry, didn't get last name).
Thanks to Marshal Thompson who showed up to help with
the shuttle at the start.
