      Lisborne post office and commmunity in Sampson county at head of navigation on Coharie River. First post office spelling of the name. Authorized to be laid out on the land of Jesse Peacock in 1785 and named Lisborne, probably for thetown of the same name in North Ireland, birthplace of Hugh Waddell(1734-1773), colonial soldier. A post office estaablished 2 Feb 1833 with George Robinson first p.m. disc 8 Aug 1834.

      Lisbon township in Sampson County. Converted from a district to a township on 18 Dec. 1868. Lisbon, post office and community at head of navigation on Coharie River. This is the third and present spelling of the name when the postoffice was reestablished 18 Oct. 1868 with Henry Elliott. Lisbon is now known as the Sampson Co. ghosttown.

      Bloody bluff is in Sampson county overlooking Black River. Said to be the site of an Indian battle before the Revolutionary War. Legend is that they fought so fiercely and so many fell into the river that the stream was red with their blood. And even today, so folks say at a certain time of the day and with the sun at a certain angle, blood of the warriors in the waters at this spot may still be seen. The road to this spot was once an Indian trading path and later a stagecoach route. A mound was discovered a few years back when the
      Tomahawk fire tower was built. In excavating for building operations, six skeletons buried head to head in a semicircle were found. Here and in other parts of this immediate section have been found many artifacts.
