Cape Fear River Trip
- Today, 8 LRCC members paddled from the wildlife
access, near Lillington, NC down to the bridge at Erwin,
NC, a distance of 8 miles. The water level was approx
1.7 ft at the Lillington gauging station and made for
some good water and nice rapids. Temperature was a
brisk 45+ degrees and appeared colder as the clouds
moved in the afternoon. We watched gliders fly overhead
from the local airport, and wildlife seen were osprey,
blue herons and other birds. Near the takeout at the
rapids on river right under the bridge, one member
turned sidways after the rapids and was caught by a rock
resulting in a cold bath. Luckily this at the takeout.
Paddlers were Jim & Mia McDermott trip leaders, Frank
Dupin, Bob Roberson, Pam Cline, Don Meece, Charles West,
and Diane Smith.
