Northeast Cape Fear - 30 Sep 2000
- Sixteen paddlers paddled the Northeast Cape Fear
River from Sarecta, NC down to Hallsville, NC, or
Section 1. The water level was 10.3 ft at the Chinquapin
gauging station down river of the trip. Mileage from
Sarecta to the wildlife boating access area at Hwy 24 was
4.7 miles where we stopped to have lunch. Hallsville
was another 4.1 miles downriver and total paddling
time was 2 hrs 53 minutes of actual moving time. There
were no portages and very few limbs had to be cut.
Wildlife included birds, ducks, blue heron, and a snake.
Leaders of the trip were Jim & Mia McDermott, & two dogs,
and the rest of the paddlers were Myron Whitley,
Dorcas Templeton, dog Issac, Lynda & Wayne Charles,
Renate Schuchardt, Charles West, Chris Raper, Don Meece,
Pam Cline, Mark & Rita DeMario, Al Benshoff, and
guests Tom & Alex Burd of Kinston. A very fast trip with
the current and water levels above normal.
