17 Club members and one guest and four dogs
paddled from Newkirks Bridge to Ivanhoe, NC in Sampson
County, NC, today in a real enjoyable paddle. The bridge
at the put in on Wildcat Road (Newkirks Bridge) is
out! We had to detour around through Ivanhoe and back
to Wildcat Rd for the put in the the East side.
Water level at Clear Run gauging site was 4.99 in the
morning and good current. The 8.5 mile trip was made in
about 4-5 hours at a real leisurely pace with stops on
nice white sandbars for lunch and swimming. There were
no portages or pullovers. During one stop for a swim
break, a Canadian goose dived bombed the swimmers and
continued on up river. Paddlers were Don & Sandy Meece
(leaders), Pam Cline, Charles West, Jim & Mia McDermot,
Forrest Altman, Jim Depree, Bill Bell, Mike & Liz Britt,
Al Pittman, Mary Martha Vaught, Marshall & Charlotte
Thompson (in solo canoes), and Craig Smith.
