Group Description

LG and Microsoft's Digital Video Recorder (160 gig HD, dual layer DVD writer, USB & LAN connectivity) is discussed here. It was released in October 2005 with a subscription EPG model (supplied by: epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com) but the listing service is now free to all units (including refurbs). Street price is about $200 as stock is being liquidated (8-2006).

This DVR is primarily a commercial skip, delayed TV viewing "appliance" with a Hard Drive and DVD burner. It is not a videophile's dream nor will discriminating viewers be pleased, it doesn't support editing or external inputs (well sorta)and even though output video quality tops out at 480p, it's effective output video quality is similar to a VCR. But it does have unique external drive support and limited networking (Ethernet & USB Wireless) capabilities (ala Win Media Center).

Little information is available online outside of the manufacturer's product information and stale CES 2005 hype. This group is meant to support owners in maximizing their use of, providing work-arounds for the limitations, to document as much as possible and collect as much helpful information on the 519 in a single forum. So, any Hint's, Tips, Hacks and/or special uses discovered are welcome in this group.

The group is open but new members must be approved and will moderated to insure SPAM control. Your IP and Email address can be hidden from the moderators if you wish but is not encouraged. Over-quoting or not trimming off the junk in follow-up will delay your posts also. For that ability and in an effort to keep the signal-to-noise ratio high, the group on topic and spamless, you must endure these hurtles. More info in the Files section on how to gain more freedom in the fiefdom.
