Tuesday I took my Technician Class license test. They kept handing me tests, so I kept taking them.

So I'm now an Extra Class Amateur Radio operator! Everyone there shook my hand.

In the USA, just as soon as a new ham is listed in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database he may operate on the air.

A new ham needs only the NVEC form in his possession showing he passed, and then he can operate using the call sign listed for his name in the FCC database.

The new ham should go here and register:

              http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/index.htm?job=home

There the ham obtains a "FRN" or Federal Registration Number.

Once he has the FRN he can log in and search for his name, find his new call sign, and operate.
