• Does anyone have a link to an inductance calculator for spiral wound coils?..... Just the formula would be fine too! Thanks in advance, Steve

The RS Theremin Coil Calculator

Single Layer Air Coil Inductance Calculator (micro Henries = d2 * n2 / ( 18d + 40l )
d = Coil diameter (in), n = Number of turns, l = Coil length (in)

a.. The default values shown are those used in the inductance example .
b.. Select what you want to solve for, then fill in the other values and press SOLVE.
c.. Use the VARY boxes to automatically vary parameters during solve.
d.. Note: Calculations produce minor floating-point round off errors.

Solve for: Inductance Diameter Turns Coil Length Vary Low - High
Coil Diameter (d)
Number of Turns (n)
Coil Length (l)
Coil Wire: 30 gauge = approx. .012" per wire turn : Length = 1.12" : Diameter = 1.375" : Turns = 100 : Inductance = 270 uh

Inductance (uh)
Estimated Wire Turns:

(per cm) Gauge # US Stand. S.W.G. A.W.G. A.W.G. Metric
30 .0120 0.0124 0.0100 0,2540
26 .0179 0.0180 0.0159 0,4038
22 .0299 0.0280 0.0253 0,6426

Type in the L and C values, selecting the units you wish to use and click on the calculate button.
There is an extra 25 pf circuit capacitance you need to add to your selected value.
