      Hi Folks,

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Inspiron 700m. Has anyone succeeded
in getting Wouxun's programming software to play nicely with Wine? The
programming software for the UV6D appears to install properly, but it
fails to activate, giving an "encoutered a serious problem and had to
close" message, accompanied by the following over-my-head back-trace stuff:

      Unhandled exception: unimplemented function
      msvcirt.dll.??0ifstream@@QAE@XZ called in 32-bit code (0x7b839cf2).

Make sure you're a member of the DIALOUT group

              sudo adduser USERNAME dialout

Replace USERNAME with your user name. When done, log out and then back in.

Of course, if you've used the ports with other software just fine, then you're already in the group.

I'm a member in good standing of dialout, and after the chmod 777, I
still get no connection with Chirp.

I picked up the radio today and I'm just trying to get into it to unlock
the menu. Whose bright idea was that, anyway, to lock it at the factory?
                ;-)

                With best regards,

                Pete

If its a newerish model radio, you might need to use the daily build of chirp. Make sure that the cable is showing up with lsusb to make sure its not a cable

Noting that the radio appears to heat up as much as it is going to after half an hour or so on the air, and that MFSK22 appears to run cooler than most other digital modes, I decided to try a longer run, fifteen hours. When I was ready to shut down, the radio was warm but not hot, and everything looked to be doing just fine.

The reason I shut down was because I was wanting to use the radio for a Packet QSO on another band.

Yesterday I made some good progress on a second HF antenna. Once it is installed and tested, I have a second power supply and HF rig on standby to be used for a dedicated SGARN server. The new server will operate almost but not quite continuously, as once a day it will have to be shut down briefly, in order to update the files to be transmitted.

If I understand correctly, I can update the files in the Tx directory as the Server runs, but will need to shut down and re-start the FLAMP software in order for the changes to take effect. If this is true, I may ask the W1HKJ programming team to consider some kind of Tx reset feature which will cause FLAMP to re-scan the Tx directory, manually or automatically on a time schedule.
                            .
                            About long transmissions:

The SGARN networking system on HF involves long, but not necessariliy continuous multicast transmissions within recognized SGARN weatering holes located within the automated sub-bands. This frees us up from scheduling issues, making the data stream available to any amateur ( who can receive a SGARN data stream ) at any time. It also makes it possible for a Server which transmits on band A to simultaneously receive updates on band B, which will carry the network deep into areas where internet access is not cheap or easy to obtain. This will make global coverage by the SGARN network a plausible, achievible goal.

Charles, The current alpha has that function when you select 'continuous  at" event. Each time a 'continuous at' occurs the TX Queue is reloaded based on the content of the file list.  Each file in the list with the same name as the one in the queue will be replaced.

Just tried that but Synaptic errors on startup saying that the header info is missing for medibuntu, then shuts down when I click on OK, no opportunity to fix anything via Synaptic?

That has nothing to do with chirp, the medibuntu repos have been shut
down. You have to remove the repos from your repo list. You can use
                                    synaptic to remove them.

OK got it to work this way:

                                        sudo mv /var/lib/apt/lists/*medibuntu* /var/lib/apt/lists/old/

CHIRP now installed ok, do I need to put any of the moved medibuntu lists back or are they all defunct now?

Thanks for your help with this.

                                        Try this,

                                        sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
                                        /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list.old

                                          Try this,

                                          sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
                                          /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list.old

                                          sudo apt-get update

OK got it to work this way:

                                            sudo mv /var/lib/apt/lists/*medibuntu* /var/lib/apt/lists/old/

CHIRP now installed ok, do I need to put any of the moved medibuntu lists back or are they all defunct now?
