It's a GUI app and beats the command line minicom as to ease of use.
Have you made yourself a serial port loopback plug?
This you can use to test the port at the PC, then move it to the serial cable
end, and finally remove it and send commands to the device using CuteCom.
Are you trying to troubleshoot a communication issue?
I've used the above in the past with success.
