Inspirion 8100 ram increase 512 to 1024
- I just purchased a fully loaded inspirion 8100.
I orderd 2-sodimm slots w/256each. [for total 512ram]
I do ALOT of video editing, and need to add more ram.
I would like to replace the Two-256s with Two-512s and
get the 8100 to reconize this.
HOW can this be done?
Compaqs 2700 accept two 512s.

Inspiron 8100 was not designed to handle more than 512 MB. There
is nothing you can do to the BIOS or anything else to change this.
It is a design limitation of the I8X00.
> Compaqs 2700 accept two 512s.So can the Inspiron 4100, which uses the Intel 830 chipset. If you
must have more than 512 MB, you will have to return or sell the 8100,
and purchase something capable of handling more than 512 MB of RAM.
You will need to check, as until recently there were NO laptops that
could do this, now there are a few at least.

- What I'm up against,
The I4100 only has a 14" screen and cannot be orderd with the ATI "64" meg 7500 card, [32-meg only], but takes the +512 ram.
The compaq 2700 has the 15" screen, takes the +512 ram, but no ATI "64" meg 7500 card [32-meg only].
Is there anything that I can do to my I8100 to make up for the extra ram for loading and running HUGE VIDEO FILES. Will this ram issue render my I8100 obsolete. [I'm still within the return period]
