Well I got some 256 Mb so-dimms (low-profile) for
my I75 from Other World Computing - THEY DON'T WORK, although I was told that
they would..... Now the so-dimms fit well into the slots and seem to be the
correct type (physically almost the same as the original chips). Now I could
'see' one of the 256Mb so-dimms, but only if I had it in slot 2 WITH a 128Mb
Dell module in slot 1 -- no other combination 'showed up as okay', in fact
every other combination caused the laptop to refuse to boot. Anyway, with
the only setup that would boot up, I still got errors with Linux as well
as Windows until I took out the 'bad' RAM.
My machine is working
properly with my Dell supplied 2x128Mb so-dimms, but I need more RAM for the
Oracle9i product that I plan to install.
Now I have the hassle of having
paid international shipping and insurance as well as taxes and customs
I have to follow this up. Has anyone else had problems with
this memory? Has anyone had any success with this memory on the I75 or I8K or
any other Dell machine?
This was my correspondence with Other World
Computing before I purchased: ------ on 6/29/01 10:01 AM, Andrew McGlashan
confirm that the following product would be suitable for my Dell Inspiron
TPW256LF 256MB CL2 PC100 2-2-2 LowProfile SO-DIMM all Apple
iBook Models, PowerBook G3 FireWire(Pismo) and G4 Titanium, with Lifetime
If you can confirm, then I will likely order two pieces as well
as other product that I am looking at.
If the Dell Laptop takes the low profile,
that is exactly what you need.
