      Good news,

I'm pleased to report that I've found a patch and have successfully
suspended and resumed. X comes back and so does sound hardware,
      touchpad, everything. It's also fast.

      The patch is at:

      http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/9/23/97

It can be applied to the FC4 kernel (I used
kernel-2.6.14-1.1653_FC4.src.rpm) using the instructions found here:

      http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=29434

I did have to mkinitrd manually and add an entry to /etc/grub.conf
manually after installing my built RPM.

I'm going to update the bugzilla bug with relevant info:

      https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=169201

For completeness here's a link to a page that was instrumental in
      putting it all together.

      http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problems_with_SATA_and_Linux

The thinkwiki site says that Ubuntu Breezy has the patch in a kernel
already, so if you can't rebuild the kernel for FC4 you could always
switch to Ubuntu for a while.

The only thing missing now is SD slot support.
