The drivers are likely on the install media. It sounds to me like your
Debian installer failed to detect the cards.
I went through about a dozen installs a few months ago on a much older
Dell laptop and I saw widely varying results in hardware detection. If
you want to run a Debian-style distro then I highly recommend Libranet;
it's Debian-derived but it's a very solid release and has just about the
best hardware detection I've seen. Installed with cabled and wireless
NICs it detected both and got both working perfectly, along with sound
and video. Debian didn't detect the wireless card.
Others that sailed through the installs: CentOS, Mandrake, Xandros, and
