      Hi,

      one of the issues on the 600m when running RH9 standard kernel (no
      ACPI), is that when you close and open the lid, the X display goes
      nuts, lots of vertical buzzing lines etc.

      I compiled the latest snapshot release of X 4.3.99.3 available at
      http://www.xfree86.org/develsnaps/ and I'm running that now. The lid
      issue is gone. You can now close and open the lid and display turns
      on and off without affecting X.

      Also, it X response time is much snappier with this release and
      things are very stable. Took me some trial and error to actually
      build and install X in a way that worked, but once I did, it has
      been very stable.

      Remaining X problems:

      - Still can't turn off display programatically so have to shut lid
      to turn it off, can't rely on screen saver.
      - DRI does not load, I think because the apg module does not load.
      loading the agp module with agp_try_unsupported loads it, but then
      restarting X with the agp module loaded had the most interesting
      psychedelic effect and was forced to power the machine off to fix it.

                so I did verify I was loading the right radeon.o module. My problem
                seems related to agpgart module. I can only load it if I specify
                agp_try_unsupported=1. If I do that and restart X by logout/login, the
                screen goes black then progressively becomes lighter in an uneven way
                and only way I can get out of it is to ctrl-alt-del.

                  I spilled some juice on my Inspiron 8200. After a while some keys got struck. I just pulled out the keys and wiped it and placed it again. Some keys are ok now. But still the space bar and right side shift keys are not ok. Is there any special liquid or way to clean. Do i need to replace the sheet which is under the keys? Or should i contact the Dell service centre.

                    In my experience it can sometimes be useful to 'exercise'
                    (i.e. keep pressing hard many times) the problematic keys until they
                    start improving. This presumably displaces any remaining stuff
                    and has worked for me in the past with a desktop keyboard.

                      I would recommend removing the keyboard from the machine, rinsing it in warm

                      You have nothing to lose at this point, and it has a good chance of working.
                      If that doesn't work then it's time to contact the service center, and
                      prepare to pony up for a new keyboard.

                        I had similar problems when I started X *without* agpgart and did an
                        insmod of agpgart and radeon *after* having started/stopped X.

                        So maybe you could try this:
                        Either put agpgart and radeon in modules.conf, reboot and start X.
                        Or reboot into runlevel 3 and insmod agpgart/radeon *before* starting X.
                        (The reboot part seems to be important.)

                          enough that they really have no right to
                          whine/bitch/complain at you about spilling juice in
                          your keyboard.

                          As someone pointed out, working the keys a lot does
                          help - I've had to do this with many keyboards.
                          However, often times you can just say "I've got some
                          sticky keys, I think something's wrong with it" and
                          they'll send you a replacement one. Thankfully it
                          isn't an expensive item (like memory or a hard drive)
                          so the techs will usually just send out a replacement.

                          One thing you might want to do, though, if you *do*
                          get a replacement, is 'warp' the keyboard a bit, that
                          is, bend it so the keys separate. Only do this a
                          little bit, because you might break something, but
                          even a little bit helps to keep the keyboard snug. A
                          tech showed me this once, because I'd replaced the
                          keyboard and the bottom right corner clacked noisily
                          whenever I typed. Something you may want to try if
                          your keyboard is clicking a bit in its mount.

                          Well tried what you describe and no luck. agp module only loads with try_unsupported flag and I get the wierd screen effects. This is with the original redhat
