Subject: [linux-dell-laptops] PCTel 2304WT V.92 MDC soft modem: NO
      CARRIER

      Hi -

I can't get my soft modem to work. I have a Latitude C640; the same
modem is apparently used in may other Dell laptops, including at least
      the X200 and the C400.

The symptoms: It dials out correctly, I hear the response from the
provider on the handset, and after the timeout the modem responds with
      NO CARRIER.

If the line is busy, or if there is no dial tone, then these
conditions are correctly reported by the modem.

Who can give me any advice?

      Thanks,
      Justus Piater

      Some more details:

Running Mandrake 9.0, kppp for dialing, driver pctel-0.9.4 (tried
default and Belgium country settings). Tried to rmmod i810_audio and
      soundcore, did not change anything.

For the modem: lspci -v gives

      00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 02) (prog-if 00
      [Generic])

      I/O ports at d400 [size=256]
      I/O ports at dc00 [size=128]
