Talk by Prof.Eben Moglen, Monday, 4th June
Eben Moglen, the architect of the GNU General Public License and one of
the greatest minds in the field of Free Software, is in town on Sunday and
Monday (3rd and 4th of June).
He will be speaking on Sunday afternoon at St.Joseph's college (see
separate announcement about this), and on Monday evening at the Indian
Institute of Science.
Given the fact that the GPLv3 release is imminent, this is your chance to
probe the mind of the architect of the license, and interact with him on
matters related to the GPL, Free Software and other matters.
This is also a chance for all of you to catch up with him if you missed
the GPLv3 conference last August.

Eben Moglen is a professor of law and legal history at Columbia
University, and is the founder, Director-Counsel and Chairman of
Software Freedom Law Center, whose client list includes numerous pro
bono clients, such as the Free Software Foundation.
Moglen is closely involved with the Free Software Foundation, serving
as general counsel since 1994 and board member from 2000 to 2007. As
counsel, Moglen was charged with enforcing the GNU General Public
License on behalf of the FSF, and later became heavily involved with
drafting version 3 of the GPL.
He will talk about the changes introduced in the new version of GPL,
the reasoning behind them and the experiences of more than an year
long and one of largest projects for drafting a software license. He
will also be talking about the future of the Free and Open Source
Community especially in the light of threats like Software Patents and
Digital Restrictions Management and how the community can respond to
Moglen stated that after the GPLv3 Discussion Draft 3 had been
released, he wanted to devote more time to writing, teaching, and the
Software Freedom Law Center.
