If you pre-registered for the Summer Knit & Crochet Show in Manchester, start watching your mailbox. Badges and tickets will begin mailing the week of June 11 through June 20. Watch for an envelope from "Knit & Crochet Show" that says "Your Event Packet Has Arrived". Note that instead of class tickets, your class codes now appear on your name badge. Notify  KnitandCrochetShow@... if your event packet doesn't arrive within a couple of weeks after June 20.

When you get your packet, keep it in a safe place - and bring it with you to Manchester. Don't leave home without it. There is a $20 replacement fee for lost or forgotten badges/tickets - no exceptions.

Volunteers help to make the Conferences go more smoothly - plus volunteering can be fun! Here are some ways you can help for just an hour:

      1.  Be A TKGA Booth Greeter - With you in the booth, staff can take a quick break. You'll have an opportunity to smile, hand out literature and take down names and contact information if someone wants to be added to our mailing list.

      2.  Be a Time Trials Judge - Spend 45 minutes as a knitting and/or crochet judge during the lunch period (12:45 - 1:30) Friday, Saturday or Sunday. We'll explain the rules and how to run the timer. Two judges are required during each time period, so we need to confirm ahead of time that you can be available on the day we need you. You can bring your lunch to the Time Trials Table to munch while you work.

      3.  Be a Saturday Evening Chic Street Fashion Show Helper -

           - Be a model! You'll get the chance to wear some beautiful knit and crochet wear.

           - Help behind the curtain - help with quick change of garments and lining up the models for their
             next parade in the spotlight.

      4.  Spread the Word! - Pass out discount coupons and posters to everyone in your area so they will know to come to the Conference and Knit & Crochet Show! We'll provide as many coupons and posters as you need.

Send an e-mail with the following volunteer details to KnitandCrochetShow@....
Staff will follow up with you. Provide your:

      Name _____________________________________________________________________

      E-mail _____________________________________________________________________

      Guild Name (if you belong)_____________________________________________________

Which activity you're interested in volunteering for:

      __ TKGA Booth Helper

__ Knitting Time Trials (check the next one, too, if you can also judge Crochet)

__ Crochet Time Trials (this will be held in the same location as the knitting trials)

      __ Fashion Show Model

__ Fashion Show Back Stage Helper

Thank you so much for helping! See you in Manchester.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball team's Knitting & Crochet Night is Monday, July 16. Get your tickets to be part of this Stitch N' Pitch special night. If you have questions about Knitting & Crochet Night, call Mike Tarleton in Group Sales at (603) 641-2005, ext. 116. For tickets, call (603) 641-2005 or visit http://www.nhfishercats.com.

The Knit & Crochet Show and TKGA have mailed a bundle of posters and discount coupon postcards to California Guild Presidents in hopes that you will spread the word and help promote the Show and Conference. Take them to your favorite beauty salon, boutique, spa and more - anywhere you might reach a fellow knitter with the news. Thanks for your help!

Oakland Knit & Crochet Show online registration went live Monday, May 7, and registrations are beginning to pour in! Knitters are getting excited because this is the TKGA National Conference - http://www.knitandcrochetshow.com/fallshow.asp.

Let us know at KnitandCrochetShow@... how many brochures you need. Limited availability. Staff can mail several Knit & Crochet Show registration brochures to your guild to share at your guild meeting with guild members who are not online.
TKGA National Conference is September 28-30 at the Oakland Marriott City Center, Oakland, CA.  September 27 is the first day for Classes, and Market Preview in the evening is open to those who have pre-registered.

Be sure to pre-register and to check the box (under section 1) to let us know if you are a member of a TKGA 10th Anniversary Guild (i.e., any guild that has been affiliated with TKGA for 10 years or more) and give the name of the guild. That way we can be prepared for you!

Your and your guild will be VIPs. Because you are special, you will:
~  Be given a "Guild Anniversary" Ribbon with your Name Badge

~ Your guild will be listed in the Show Directory as being present for recognition

~ Have your guild poster on display throughout the Show (see more below)

~ Be recognized at the Friday evening TKGA Member Meeting with a certificate
         and some anniversary cake!

~ Be part of the special guild anniversary photo session at the Member Meeting

~ Be asked to stand at the TKGA Saturday evening dinner. If your guild happens to have
a guild outfit (i.e., if everyone has the same sweater or vest, etc.), you will have a
chance to show them off during the Fashion Show!

~ Be part of the door prize drawings and giveaways at the Saturday evening dinner.

Please notify TKGA@... if you will be bringing a 10th Anniversary guild poster for display - be sure to include in the e-mail the name of your guild. We want to make sure we have enough space reserved for everyone to be included.

Your guild poster is your chance to post photos and tell your guild story, including celebrating those special guild members who have contributed so much to your group throughout the years. The Guild Wall of Fame will be set up on the Show Floor for everyone to see!   Please limit your poster size to 24" x 28" or less - foamcore is recommended to keep down the weight and give stability. Please put lots of Velcro (the hooked part) on the back so it can easily be hung on the display drape. Make sure your guild name is prominent on the poster.

If your local guild does not already have a program for presenting Precious Pals ( http://www.tkga.com/preciouspals.shtm) to local agencies for distribution to children in crisis, bring your Pals to the Oakland show for display. After the Show, TKGA will make sure your stuffed friends get to children in need. Last year, all Pals collected at TKGA Conferences and through direct donations to TKGA went to young Katrina victims.   See some of their pictures at http://www.tkga.com/resources/KatrinaPhotoPage.pdf.

On May 23, watch for an e-mailed notice announcing the new username for accessing the Members Only area of the TKGA Web site starting May 24. While we hate to change passwords, it is important to protect this benefit of your TKGA membership. New items will be posted to the Members Web page in the coming months, just for you!

You'll be glad to note that the Guild Resources Area  http://www.tkga.com/guildsclubs.shtm username and password will not change. (Username: guild   and Password: learn).

In last month's newsletter we mentioned that TKGA now has a Memorial Fund. You can make donations to "Helping Hands Foundation, Inc." and designate it for "TKGA Memorial Fund". If you are memorializing someone, be sure to attach a note providing the name so it can be posted online as part of the TKGA Memorial Wall of Fame. Helping Hands Foundation, a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization, serves as the repository of the fund. All gifts are tax deductible. Names of donors will be posted on the TKGA Web site ( http://www.tkga.com/memorialfund.shtm).

Soon a list of Scholarship Award Winners will be posted. The first award is set for the end of August 2007 if applications are received. To nominate someone for a scholarship or to apply, yourself, check out the details at at http://www.tkga.com/memorialfund.shtm. Awards are applied to TKGA education, including: a level of the TKGA Master Knitting Program, TKGA Correspondence Courses or knitting education expenses at a TKGA Conference. Any TKGA member can fill out an application to nominate someone for the grant.

An online index of Cast On articles and patterns has been introduced on the Web site at http://www.tkga.com/coindex.shtm. The index starts with the Feb-April 2007 issue and will go forward as new issues are published. To search for a specific pattern, author or word, use the Word Find function on your computer (such as CTRL +F).

TKGA guilds often organize or participate in Knit-Out events in their area.  What is a Knit-Out? It is a local activity that is open to the public and designed to encourage interest in knitting. Those organizing a Knit-Out do not have to register with or get permission from any umbrella organization. But they should notify TKGA, CGOA and other organizations like the Craft Yarn Council of America to be added to calendars and notices about the events. TKGA, CGOA and the Craft Yarn Council all promote the Knit-Out concept as a way to help spread interest in knitting and crocheting, to encourage growth in local guilds, and to encourage participation by local retailers who can benefit from new people joining the knitting ranks.

In 1998 the Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA) started the Knit-Out idea, encouraging guilds, groups, retailers, etc., to sponsor the events as an educational outreach to "consumers who might never set foot in a yarn store or department". CYCA says they "involved guilds from the very beginning because people new to the crafts of knitting and crocheting should consider joining a guild" for friendship and as a group source of information and growth.
A Craft Yarn Council Web site ( Knit-Out.com) helps to promote these fairs nationwide. Any guild can send their event information (date, time, location, activities planned, contact info, etc.) for CYCA to post by state. Guilds can print out a helpful Idea Brochure (you have to scroll down to the end of the  Knit-Out.com page), which outlines how to plan a Knit-Out.

TKGA posts Knit-Outs you tell us about in the Swatches newsletter.

Make it a great vacation! Come to a November 16-17, 2007 show in Orlando that has shopping opportunities for knitting and crochet and also quilting, needlepoint, cross-stitch and embroidery! PLUS, with the same ticket, you'll get access to TWO OTHER shows in the same location!

Yes! You can get into all THREE of these shows with ONE ticket:

      - Orlando Needlework Show

      - Memories Scrapbooking Expo™ and

The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) has made Stitch N' Pitch arrangements with 23 national teams and local retailers and guilds. Visit the Stitch N' Pitch Web site ( www.StitchNPitch.com) for a list of teams that offer Stitch N' Pitch special seating for stitchers on certain dates.  Then purchase Stitch N' Pitch game tickets from the team. For additional involvement, contact  info@... and ask for help in  connecting with local retailers who may be setting up Stitch N' Pitch teaching tables at the game. Ask the retailer if your guild members can help teach and hand out guild brochures. This could give your guild a high profile among new and experienced knitters.

Knitted Postage Stamps - per an announcement by Bobbie Matella in Creative Knitting with Bobbie: "In early October, during the American Stamp Dealers Association Mega Event in New York City, the Postal Service will issue Holiday Knits, four stamps featuring classic winter-time imagery designed and machine-knitted by national known illustrator Nancy Stahl. The stamp images include a dignified stag, a snow-dappled evergreen tree, a perky snowman sporting a top hot, and a whimsical teddy bear...[the stamp designs are] inspired by traditional Norwegian sweaters and knitted Christmas stockings."
Caps to the Capital, Video to View - view a video made by the Kentucky Country Day School Stitch for a Cause Sponsor about their participation in Caps for the Capital and Save the Children.
