It's the same name (Nebraska Knit & Crochet Guild) so I'm assuming it's the Omaha guild.  They organized on 10-25-2006, exactly 2 months after we did.

At both of the Knit & Crochet Shows scheduled for 2007

At both of the 2007 Knit & Crochet Shows, knitwear designers have a creative opportunity to benefit the Helping Hands Foundation, Inc. (HHF). Designers are encouraged to donate creatively knit (or crocheted) purses for the Helping Handbags Silent Auction to advance a new generation of knitters! The silent auction will culminate at Saturday evening galas during the Shows. Donations are needed for both Shows. Details on how to donate will be released at www.KnitAndCrochetShow.com.

Through its Needle Arts Mentoring ProgramSM, the non-profit organization HHF provides free needle arts supplies to groups of children who are learning to stitch with the help of volunteer adult mentors. Visit www.needleartsmentoring.org.

Is Your Guild On the List to Be Recognized?
If your guild was first affiliated with TKGA from 1985-1997, make sure you are listed at the end of this newsletter. TKGA will recognize your anniversary on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the TKGA National Convention dinner! There will be door prizes and other fun for all who can come. Important: Reserve your tickets to the dinner through pre-registration so we'll be sure to have space for everyone. Last-minute tickets may not be available.

Bring to the Convention on Thursday or Friday a poster we can add to a display on the show floor honoring all guilds that have been with TKGA for 10 years or more. Friday evening is a TKGA Member and Member Guilds Meeting. We'll recognize guilds there, as well as at the Saturday dinner.

      TKGA Memorial Fund Established
You can now memorialize a life-long knitting friend or relative by contributing to a special TKGA memorial fund. Gifts for "The Knitting Guild Association Memorial Fund" should be made payable to "Helping Hands Foundation, Inc., 1100-H Brandywine Blvd, Zanesville, OH 43701-7303 (Phone: 740-452-4541)" which will administer the fund. Specifically direct that your gift should go to "The Knitting Guild Association Memorial Fund" and identify the name of the person you are remembering. All gifts are tax deductible under the 501(c)3 non-profit Helping Hands Foundation, the umbrella organization for Needle Arts Mentoring Programs SM across the country.

The first two memorial gifts to the fund have been given in remembrance of Virginia Dillon and Marjorie Hughes. Their names will be the first to be posted on the TKGA Memorial Fund Remembrance Page on the TKGA Web site. The memorial fund and this remembrance page are a special dedication by friends and family in memory of those who were truly passionate about knitting. Details will be released shortly regarding how the funds will be awarded.

      Precious Pictures from Precious Pals

Would you like to see the child who received your Precious Pals donation? In February, go to the Precious Pals area of the TKGA Web site (in the Guilds section) to see several young recipients clutching their new Pals. Your donation may be among them. Seventy Precious Pals were sent in 2006 by TKGA to Volunteers of America in Greater Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The stuffed toys were distributed to children by case managers and first responders within the Katrina Aid Today and Louisiana Spirit programs. The grateful faces of some of the children say "thank you!"

TKGA continues to accept Precious Pals donations for distribution in 2007 to various programs that help children in crisis. Bring your Pal donations to Conference or send them to TKGA Headquarters.

      Charity Dog Blanket Pattern

A charity dog blanket pattern will be added online soon to the TKGA members-only area (http://www.tkga.com/members/index.shtm). Thank you to designer Lorraine Ehrlinger of the Northcoast Knitting Guild, OH for designing and donating these patterns to TKGA (TKGA copyright) for use by our members. If you would like to donate a charity pattern for all members to enjoy, contact TKGA@....

Picture from December 2006, below, is the brunch meeting of the Cape Fear Knitter's, Wilmington, NC Chapter of TKGA. Ladies seated in the front row are modeling sweaters they made for themselves, and on the table are two felted handbags. The group is showing off a multi-patterned afghan and preemie hats made for charity.  Cape Fear Knitter's started in June, 2005 and now averages 40-50 members. The guild meets once a month in a classroom at University of  NC, Wilmington, which offers free classrooms to groups meeting for the purpose of continuing education.  Each meeting includes a lesson on a new technique or fiber, "show and tell", pattern and scrap yarn swaps, and time for making new friends and advancing their knitting experiences.

In the News & Famous in the UK: The North Coast Knitters of CA were mentioned in an article featuring Jean Moss in the Christmas 2006 Special issue of Knitting (a UK magazine also available in the US). Jean visited the guild while in San Diego and is quoted as saying: "North Coast Knitters are a group jam-packed with talent and the classes are a delight."
