Thats the simple things that you can do using overlay technic, as it is used
      in paintings ;-)

Draw the background first and overlay it with the foreground ;-)

Most things can be done, when you remember, that you can change the colour of
the pixels afterwards by using a different shape to cover the unwanted
      sections ;-))

You should have said, that you want to have it look like this:

      '---code start
      ' RPM gauge

      nomainwin

open "RPM gauge" for graphics_nsb as #main
      #main "trapclose [quit]"
      #main "down ;home"

      #main "color black ;backcolor black"
      #main "piefilled 200 200 1 -182"
      #main "color red ;backcolor red"
      #main "piefilled 190 190 -5 -20"
      #main "color green ;backcolor green"
      #main "piefilled 190 190 -25 -10"
      #main "color black ;backcolor black"
      #main "piefilled 180 180 1 -182"
      #main "flush"
      wait

      [quit]
      close #main
      end
      '---code end
