      Crunch Announce 2009-10 Schedule Format


      Syracuse, NY (July 7, 2009) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the American Hockey League has released its schedule format for the 2009-10 season.


      The Crunch will be joining the Eastern Conference’s East Division, after having competed in the Western Conference’s North Division for the past six seasons.


      The Crunch will play 42 games against their East Division opponents ( Albany 8, Binghamton 8, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 8, Adirondack 6, Hershey 6 and Norfolk 6).  Syracuse also has 16 contests against the Atlantic Division ( Bridgeport 2, Hartford 2, Lowell 2, Manchester 2, Portland 2, Providence 2, Springfield 2 and Worcester 2).


      In addition, the Crunch will face-off against North Division teams 16 times (Rochester 10, Hamilton 2, Lake Erie 2 and Toronto 2) and West Division clubs six times (Houston 2, San Antonio 2 and Texas 2).


      The breakdown of the Crunch’s 2009-10 schedule format is as follows:


      East Division


      Adirondack (3 home/3 road)

      Albany (4 home/4 road)

      Binghamton (4 home/4 road)

      Hershey (3 home/3 road)

      Norfolk (3 home/3 road)

      Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (4 home/4 road)


      Atlantic Division


      Bridgeport (1 home/1 road)

      Hartford (1 home/1 road)

      Lowell (1 home/1 road)

      Manchester (1 home/1 road)

      Portland (1 home/1 road)

      Providence (1 home/1 road)

      Springfield (1 home/1 road)

      Worcester (1 home/1 road)

      The 2009-10 regular season will begin October 2. The complete schedule will be announced later this summer.

      In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the eighth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2008-09.
