Sofia and I alomg with Mostofa, Mark and Tav are in Dhaka for 5 days taling to Dr Yunus and his employees- making videos of some if their latest news
books can be got at my father's address in wimbledon 02085432159
its very difficult coping with the hundreds of qiestions people would like asked of yunus- on translation I suggest that if there is anything from the book that is under 1 page long you can translate itn and circulate it b- eg I did this wiuth the "knowledge' nof the publisher http://www.valuetrue.com/home/GetPDF.cfm?filename=yunuscripts.doc
best to put a full reference to the book on any sampler trans;ations so people can know how to find the source

Date: Friday, 11 July, 2008, 10:59 AMHi Tom, Chris and Sofia
Chris and Sofia - The influence of the Yunus book is spreading. See email below. Sofia/Chris I need to get more books ready for next week when David Mutua should be in UK. Sofia I am having difficulty making contact with you at present.
Chris - your comment about the Kenyan/MIncui Sodas book club challenged me (about the good use made of the books that I had passed on to Ken). I had spoken about the book to various people here but no-one else had read it.I was recently in conversation with a local community police officer, whose role includes working with disadvantaged young people - so I lent him my copy and referred him to chapter 11. I don't know if he will find time to read it.
Tom and Chris - Ref Tom's desire to translate it into dholuo. I imagine Yunus would be happy with anything that helped to spread the ideas. Perhaps, as a start, we could simply have a thread at LFEO, or on the wiki (or I have access to an implentation of Moodle - maybe that would be a good place to put it as well). Perhaps Tom could explain some of the general ideas from the book in dholuo and then translate small sections in order of importance as he has time. Meanwhile, maybe someone who knows Mohammed Yunus might be able to ask him for his full permission to do more.
There would be two issues as I see it. One is copyright and the other is accuracy.
Ref copyright - I think he will be happy to have the ideas shared, and I doubt if the publishers are planning a dholuo version yet, so I don't imagien there woudl be any problem - but none the less we should seek permission.
Ref accuracy I think it should be okay as long Tom does not claim the dholou version is an exact translation I think there should be some disclaimer. For example "This is a local adaptation of the ideas of Mohammed Yunus described in his book.....". If Tom (and/or whoever helped him) called it a "translation then Yunus would probably need to check that it is all accurate - and that might not be possible.
(Chris - reminder to see email below)
