Sgt Troy, as crafted by Chris George, is still a wonderful character more than 50 years after his and Tully's jeep leaped the dunes for the first time.

Sadly his alter-ego, Chris George, died suddenly 34 years ago today. A hard day, I'm sure, for his widow, Lynda Day George Cronin, and their children.

But there is also good news for Ratties today. Thanks in part to his wonderful character and the series, the Shout! Factory has re-released both seasons of the Rat Patrol today.

First released by MGM in 2008, the original DVDs had quickly sold out. The re-release comes just in time for Christmas shopping!
