Educational Program at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park - Las Cruces
- ASOMBRO INSTITUTE FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION HOSTS A DAY VISITING THE PAST
Come get a look into the past with the Asombro Institute for Science
Education at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park. Join us on Saturday,
February 28th from 9:00 a.m. - noon for a day Visiting the Past.
There will be arts and crafts for the kids including making your own
take-home clay pot. Grind corn and throw an atlatl (what the past
inhabitants of the area used to hunt their food). Learn about fossils
and view some spectacular specimens. At one station, you can even
learn how to gather data about artifacts or do some primitive
painting! The event is free and families are welcome!
The Asombro Institute for Science Education's Chihuahuan Desert Nature
Park is located northeast of Las Cruces. From I25 in Las Cruces head
east on Highway 70. Take the Mesa Grande Road exit (at Oñate High
School). Make a U-turn under the highway to head west and stay in the
right lane. Turn right (north) on Jornada Road. Follow Jornada Road
for 6.5 miles and turn left at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park sign.
Follow the entrance road to the parking area and trailhead.
