Group Description

This group is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Corvair station wagon, popularly known as the Lakewood. Information about the Corvair station wagon will be shared and dissemanated here. If you are interested in, or own, America's most unique station wagon, then this this group is where you want to be. This group is an outgrowth of CORSA's nationwide Lakewood/Monza Wagon Chapter (Chapter #001, in fact).

The Corvair station wagon was built during the entire 1961 model year and half of the 1962 model year. In 1961 the wagons were know as Lakewoods and built in the 500 (base) series and 700 (deluxe) series. For 1962 the 500 wagon was dropped , but a new Monza wagon, became the top of the line hauler. Decisions at Chevrolet killed the Corvair wagon midway through the 1962 model year, as it was seen to compete too closely with the Chevy II wagon, which was new for 1962. Approximately 32,000 Corvair wagons were built during it's year and a half production run. The rarest wagon is the 1962 Monza, with only 2,362 produced. The Monza Wagon is also one of the rarest Corvairs, and one of the rarest mass-produced station wagons. Any Corvair wagon is uncommon and gets a lot of attention.
