      Thursday, June 27th
      6:30pm

      6120 S Vermont, LA 90044 (between

Please join us for the launch of "Maroon
the Implacable"; the collected writings of political prisoner Russell “Maroon”
Shoatz. (Venue changed from original location at Immanuel

Russell "Maroon" Shoatz  is a former leader of the Black
Panther Party and the Black Freedom Movement who was originally imprisoned in
January 1972 for actions relating to his political involvement. With an
extraordinary thirty-plus years spent in solitary confinementincluding the past
twenty-three years continuouslyMaroon’s case is one of the most shocking
examples of U.S. torture of political prisoners, and one of the most egregious
examples of human rights violations regarding prison conditions anywhere in the
      world.

Speakers Include: Theresa Shoatz (daughter of Russell Maroon
Shoatz and part of the Campaign to Free Russell Maroon Shoatz), Rene Valdez
(organizer for the Campaign to Free Russell Maroon Shoatz), Black Riders
Liberation Party and Eric Mann (Director of the Labor/Community Strategy
      Center).

for a review of Maroon's book in the new issue of Turning the Tide: Journal of
      Anti-Racist Action, Research & Education)
