      [1]On Sunday, the Venezuelan government announced through an official
      statement that President Hugo Ch�vez has made favorable progress in recent
      days and that he is strictly adhering to medical treatment.

      Communications Minister Ernesto Villegas read the statement live on radio
      and television. According to the text, the president�s respiratory
      infection is controlled, and he is conscious and communicating with his
      family and political team.

      Below is the full text of the statement:

      The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela wishes to inform the
      Venezuelan people and brother countries about the clinical evolution of
      President Hugo Ch�vez.

      Despite his delicate health situation after a complex surgery last December
      11, his overall clinical progress in recent days has been favorable.

      The president continues to comply strictly with medical treatment. The
      respiratory infection is controlled, though the commander president still
      requires specific measures to solve the respiratory deficiency.

      The president is conscious, in communication with his family, his political
      team, and the medical team that is attending to him, and is keeping himself
      informed of information of interest.

      On the eve of the celebration of the Procession of the Divine Shepherdess,
      the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela invites Venezuelan families to join
      in prayer so that the Patron Saint of Barquisimeto may bring peace and
      happiness to our nation.

      Long live Ch�vez!
