Perspectivas en la Frontera / Perspectives on the
Border, is a portrait of the fence that divides
the United States and Mexico and shows the
structure as seen through those who come into
contact with it on a daily basis. The project
pushes the viewer beyond preconceived notions
that they may see it as a more dynamic and multi
dimensional space. Exhibited with quotes from
interviews, it treats equally the border patrol
agent, and the border crosser, letting each
person speak for themselves and allowing the
viewer to come to his own conclusion.
The exhibit will be accompanied by a panel
discussion on cross border Diaspora. As tensions
arise surrounding a war with Iraq and borders
tighten throughout the world it is more important
than ever to keep the channels of communication
open. By bringing together artists, intellectuals
and activists the panel will provide an open
forum for a discussion on immigration policy
Current confirmed panelists include Beth
Baker-Cristales (Anthropologist, CalState LA),
Barbara Grover (Photographer), Michael Novick
(Anti-Racist Organization) and more!
