This event brings together Hamid Khan who has been fighting LAPD spying and has on-the-ground experience with the continuing militarization of American
policing and the associated loss of civil liberties, with Max Blumenthal, an investigative journalist who has researched Israel's role in this dangerous process.
Max Blumenthal has written for The Nation, The Daily Beast, Al Jazeera English, Salon.com, Alternet, The Huffington Post, and the Washington Monthly. He is the winner of the USC Annenberg Online Journalism Award for his investigative print journalism. He has produced several widely-recognized video reports that have garnered hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube.
His bestselling 2009 book is titled: Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement That Shattered the Party.
Hamid Khan is a leading grass-roots community organizer fighting for human rights in Los Angeles. He is an organizer with the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition that is working to rescind LAPD Special Order 1 that legitimizes police spying and data gathering, infringes on privacy and civil liberties, and promotes racial profiling. Khan was honored by the California State Assembly in 2006 for “Excellence in public service and his dedication and contributions to the people of the State of California and beyond.”
