THIS COULD MEAN MORE MONEY TO ACQUIRE ALL OF THE BALLONA WETLANDS
ECOSYSTEM, THE BOLSA CHICA MESA, LOS CERRITOS WETLANDS, MALIBU LAGOON
WETLANDS, TRANCAS LAGOON, LAS FLORES LAGOON, LOS ANGELES RIVER etc.....

OF COURSE, WE MUST ALSO KEEP UP THE PRESSURE TO ENCOURAGE THE EMERGENCE
OF WILLING SELLERS IN THESE IMPORTANT PLACES!

and....as the Los Angeles Times' editorial folks pointed out today, land
scams abound. We must watchdog appraisals to insure the public is not
providing GIFTS of public funds to speculative developers!!! (so there
will be plenty of money for all of the land we need to protect!)

To Those with Interests in Parks, Beaches, Wetlands & Watersheds,

Please take 5 minutes to copy the letter below onto your letterhead and
      fax
immediately to Senator John Burton’s office (c/o Mary Shallenberger
at 916/445-8356) where the letters will be collected and delivered to
      the
      Governor’s Office.

Time is of the essence. Given the projected budget cutbacks the next few
      years,
the bond proposed in AB 1602 is the single best opportunity to fund
      natural
resource protection over the next few years. Thank you for your help!

      The Honorable Gray Davis
      Governor of California
      California State Capitol
      Sacramento, CA 95814

      RE: AB 1602 - SUPPORT

      Dear Governor Davis:

I am writing to urge your support for the proposed resources bond, AB
      1602.

You and your administration have begun a tremendous legacy for parks,
      open
spaces, watersheds, and clean beaches in California. In the face of
tightening budgets, this bond represents the best hope for maintaining
      and
      building upon your legacy.

Along California’s coast, as you have recognized, the need is critical.
      The
Proposition 12 and 13 bonds have initiated a new era of conservation in
      the
state and created a comprehensive set of projects and infrastructure for

implementing them. But the funds are not adequate. AB 1602, if signed
      by
you and passed by the voters, would continue the funding, keeping your
legacy vital. The bill, as passed by the legislature, is refreshingly
without earmarks, and therefore, would allow your administration to
      direct
spending to the areas of greatest priority.

Moreover, your signature would not commit the funds, but simply allow
      the
voters to decide. Please give the voters of the state the opportunity
      to
demonstrate the significance they attach to natural resource protection.

      Sincerely,
