      13th Annual
      Los Angeles Area Regional Singing

An all-day shape note singing will be held at Angel's Gate Cultural Center
(Building H) in San Pedro on Saturday, May 14, 2005, from 10:00 - 3:00, with
"dinner on the grounds" (potluck) at approximately 12:00 - 1:00.

Singing and dinner are both free.

Singing will be from the 1991 edition of _Sacred Harp_, the most widely used
a capella songbook in America. Loaner copies will be available. Cost for
purchasing a loaner copy is $20.

      More details are given at:
      http://homepage.smc.edu/russell_richard/fasola/2005%20regional.htm

Each singer has the opportunity to lead a song.

There is no obligation to stay for all five hours.

There is a brief recess after every hour of singing, making it easy to get up
and leave if you have other commitments.

If you wish to acquaint yourself with the quirkiness of the Shape-Note tradition
ahead of time, a learner's group will be meeting one week earlier (Saturday,
May 7) in Santa Monica from 4-6 p.m.

      Learner's Group details:

There is no charge for learner's group.
      Again, loaner books are available.

The purpose of using shapes (triangle, oval, rectangle, and diamond) is to
make it easier to sight-read music.

      Hope to hear you there,

      David Olson
