      Youth Speaks is a leading nonprofit presenter of spoken word in the country,
      producing multiple artistic forums, such as the Living Word Festival, the
      Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam, Second Sundays, Brave New Voices, Spoken City
      and the Bringing the Noise Reading Series, along with a comprehensive
      curricula of workshops, arts education and youth development programs.

      Primary Responsibilities: The Program Associate works to assist the Program
      Director in maintaining current programs and developing new ones so as to
      best forward the Youth Speaks mission. The Program Associate works to assure
      the success of Youth Speaks¹ Performance and Publication programs, and
      serves as the primary staff liaison for Spokes (Youth Board), and oversees
      the work of the Spokes Coordinator. In this capacity, The Program Associate
      insures that staff and spokes are working together on projects, that there
      are youth involved in all aspects of the organization¹s programming and that
      there is adult support for all Spokes projects.

      The Program Associate also assists the Program Director as needed in all
      aspects of the following programs:

      … Hip Hop Theater Festival
      Publications

      … Design & Layout of Flyers/Posters
      … Audio & Video PSA¹s
      … Website Updates (w/Spokes)

      Evaluations & Reports
      … Audience Surveys
      … Evaluation of Events
      … Assessment of Programs
      Requirements: At least 2-3 years experience in the nonprofit or for-profit
      world, with a focus on event production and/or youth arts, youth
      development, and arts presenting. Familiarity with Macs, including Word,
      Excel and Filemaker Pro a must. Must be organized and able to work with
      artists in a fast-paced, group environment. Must be able to work closely
      with a small staff and must also be able to work independently and MUST be
      able to interact positively with teenagers. We are looking for a person with
      vision who is committed to the continued development of this 7 year old
      nonprofit that supports Bay Area youth through the literary arts. Socially
      responsible and progressive person with a connection to local community a
      plus. A poet with a history of performance is a plus!

      This is a fun work environment with a dynamic staff and constituency. We
      have a new literary arts center in the Mission district that we work out of
      in an open-office environment. In addition to this position, there are 3
      full time employees (Executive Director, Managing Director, and Program
      Director) and 5 part-time employees (Arts-in-Education Director, Educational
      Outreach Coordinator, Arts-in-Education Associate, Development Associate,
      and Spokes Coordinator) as well as a large number of interns (teens and
      college­age).

      mentoring programs, and cooperative learning, Youth Speaks is committed to
      creating spaces that celebrate the youth voice and its essential role in the
      literary continuum.
