      Position Summary

      Working closely with the Executive Director, the Public Programs Director
      curates and organizes the Workshop's artistic calendar, manages
      relationships with artists and writers, coordinates special projects and
      artistic collaborations, and represents the Workshop at community-based
      events. The Public Programs Director reports to the Executive Director,
      works closely with colleagues on other Workshop activities, and oversees
      both interns and a working committee of the Board and technical staff for
      special presentations.

      Primary Job Description Responsibilities

      *Organize and oversee weekly events, reading series, writing workshops and
      artistic organizational collaborations

      *Curate seasonal artistic calendar; network with publicists, maintain
      relationships with writers, and establish connections with area non profit
      arts organizations.

      *Develop and design publicity materials and press releases.

      *Coordinate and implement all aspects of the ceremony and judging process
      for the Asian American Literary Awards, including solicitation of judges,
      submissions, financial support, and event organization.

      *Assist Executive Director with grant proposals and reports for programs

      Desired Qualifications

      *Experience with every aspect of literary artistic presentations
      *Strong communication--written, oral and public speaking
      *Proven commitment to working in community based organizations/nonprofits
      *Prefer Bachelor's degree or higher, computer-based graphic design
      experience, and strong organization skills

      This part-time position offers a competitive hourly nonprofit salary with a
      quarterly pay increase program, full medical/dental benefits, and the
      opportunity to work with creative, committed community partners and artists.
      Founded in 1991, The Asian American Writers' Workshop is the country's
      leading literary arts organization dedicated to the creation, development,
      publication and dissemination of Asian American literature.
