I can't see myself spending enough time to make 16 good enough to submit,
but only one (a few?) seems like pressure to choose one of your kids over
another, ya know? We are all free to post patches anytime we want (and I
think a contest will bring some of us out of the woodwork)... what if
anyone who wanted to contribute could upload all the patches they wanted,
with the same discretion we use now, and then we could check them out, and
nominate patches for the contest... instead of each of us choosing which
of our patches to enter, the whole group of entrants does. Maybe each of
us would get to nominate a certain # of patches, and you can only nominate
other people's patches? I dunno, work that out if we choose to try it this
              way... just a brainstorm.
You can count me in either way, prize(s) or not. I have only had my
              MS2000 about a month, but I have been self-employed as an MS2000
patch-programmer (read: unemployed by choice) for all but a week of it.
it's been great, and I've been productive; unfortunately very few of my
patches would be acceptable to post at all... I use outboard gear for
almost everything. MIDI 1+2 are always slaved to the KAOSS PAD, and
usually used somehow in the virtual patches. Also with the ER-1 it can be
pretty effective to Pan all parts hard left or right and send them through
the MS2000 INs 1+2, and ring-mod the rhythm or whatever I build out of the
              4synth parts it has.
I love the gear KORG is putting out, but I can't believe they put all
this gear in the Dance or DJ section of their US site; I can see the KAOSS
in that section since it is the bad DJ's saviour and all, but as a MIDI
controller it kicks ass. (anyone know what KORG would do to my warrantee
(on the MS2000) if I cut open a hole on the left side of my MS2000 and
emmbedded the guts of the KAOSS PAD in there, then mounted the screen flush
on the surface? It seems like there is just enough empty space in there if
it is hollow like I presume).
I love the MS2000 Patch Randomizer... I fear if I won the contest, I
might have to give credit to it! The other day I stumble This ---><---
close to the sound of a helicopter approching/hovering/panning... just a
few micro-adjustments, and done. Ten more minutes of playing with the
sound and I thought a P-51 Mustang was flying through the living room. I
love this synth, and the softwares you have written really helps us all to
unleash its full power- Thank you very much.

Like I just posted elsewhere, I'm up for it :)

I wanted to make a quick suggestion: I read the list in "digest"
format, so I often miss things if they're ultra-quick. So could we
have at least twenty-four hours' notice before the contest deadline?
:) That should give me just enough time to read the message and get
the synth prepped for some heavy-duty patch making.

Also, I kind of liked the idea of making a bank of 16 patches to
sort of show how "well-rounded" you can be. Or maybe we could cut the
number down some.. I think that requiring a "bass" sound and a "pad"
sound and so on would be a bit limiting. But getting an averaged feel
for a patchmaker's ability would be cool..

I agree that anything in the User Patches folder could be taken into
consideration too. But the way to do that is to upload your patches
there and from the feedback you get from people who download them
determine which patch of yours would be the best for the contest.

glad to hear that someone else is finding the patch randomizer
useful. It can create some great results sometimes, especially if you
tailor the config file a bit. Also I am adding some more features so
it can send NRPN values as well as plain CC values. Then you can
randomize all the modulation routing and the mod sequencer too ! By
the way this software will work with any synth you have if you set
the config file up for it !! Very handy.

                    later,

I should be getting a multi-port midi interface next week for my
parallel port, so I can run my midi from my laptop instead of from
my ancient 386 25MHz PC, so it will be super easy to up/download
                            patches, soooooooooooooooooooooo count-me-in.
