FLUORIDE MEETING WEDNESDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 8
The Evening After the Morning Hearing: What Next?

UPDATE AND ACTION PLAN RE COURT HEARING SEPTEMBER 8 AT 8:15 AM.

Whatever the ruling, residents of LA and all California communities will need
to plan their next move and begin action immediately. LA residents need to
decide how to get fluoride OUT of the water, and residents of other
communities need to learn how to KEEP it out. The evening of Sept. 8, plan
with LA Citizens for Safe Drinking Water (CFSDW).

The September 8 evening meeting will be hosted by supporters of the Great
Boycott targeting the world-leading producers and exporters of pesticides,
genetically engineered foods, and toxic wastes: Monsanto, Du Pont, Dow,
Novartis, Imperial Chemical Industries, Rhone Poulenc, Bayer, and Hoechst.
The fluoride added to LA water is a by-product of making fertilizers such as
those sold by some of these companies. If they could not dump it in city
water supplies, they would need to dispose of it as hazardous waste at great
expense. One of the companies, Dupont recently faced criminal investigation
for adding fluorine to Benlate, and causing horrendous damage to environment
and health. Therefore, we are opening the September Boycott meeting to
concerned citizens who want to protect their health against hazardous waste
added to water in local communities.

Are boycotted companies supplying the hazardous waste to treat LA water?

We don't know. Chemtech, the St. Louis distributor from which LA buys the
fluorosilicic acid, refuses to tell public citizens who supplies them. A
spokesman from DWP regulatory affairs says DWP declines to ask Chemtech who
supplies them. WHO IS DUMPING THEIR HAZARDOUS WASTE IN OUR DRINKING WATER
INSTEAD OF A HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITY? We will try to have more info
      at the meeting.

BIASED NAS STUDY OF GENETICALLY ENGINEERED CROPS

Dr. Michael Phillips left the National Academy of Sciences last month to work
for the biotech trade association, Biotechnology Industry Organization. He
had just directing a study he assess the benefits and risks of specific
genetically modified crops. He helped recruit a panel in which a majority of
members received direct or indirect funding from GE seed producers such as
Monsanto and Novartis. Hear the details from the columnist who write about
the NAS issue for the DAILY BREEZE and Copley News Service. Learn how buying
organic and shopping at natural foods stores can keep your diet free of
      frankenfoods.

Featured speaker is Paul Borraccia, radio personality and LA coordinator of
CFSDW. Other speakers include Robert Sterling, radio personality and
publisher of Konformist magazine, and Barbara Keeler, journalist who
published a DAILY NEWS column about fluoride and numerous articles about
      genetically engineered foods.

Meet at 7:30 PM at Wild Oats, 500 Wilshire in Santa Monica.
For further information, call the Great Boycott number 310/281-1927.

YOU CAN HELP STRENGTHEN THE LEGAL CASE AGAINST THE CITY!

The public is being denied information about the sources of the toxic waste
added to LA water. Phosphate fertilizer manufacturers need to remove fluoride
from the phosphate rock so that it does not kill crops and livestock. Instead
of disposing of it as hazardous waste at great expense, they sell it to
Chemtech, a St. Louis distributor, which then sell it to LA City for the
water. Chemtech refuses to tell public citizens who supplies them. A
spokesman from DWP regulatory affairs says DWP declines to ask Chemtech who
      supplies them.

You can help Citizens for Safe Drinking water establish that information is
being withheld from the public. Call Chemtech at 800/325-3332. Ask for Mike
Berg. He will probably refer you to someone at the DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND
POWER to whom he supposedly sent the information. When you call the person at
the DWP, he will tell you he does not have the information. If you do not
reach him, call DWP at 213/367-3182. Eacrmation. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE
PUBLIC IS BEING DENIED THIS INFORMATION, NO MATTER HOW THEY EXPLAIN IT OR
      PASS THE BUCK.

Call 310/281-1927. Leave a message with your name, number, who you talked to,
and confirming that they did not tell you what fertilizer companies supply
the byproducts dumped in LA City water. PLEASE KEEP YOUR MESSAGE BRIEF! Do
not include information about their explanations. We have already heard it.
We will get the info to the attorney to establish that the public cannot
      access material information. Thank you.

Water fluoridation has begun in LA. Fluoride will be in your bath and shower.
Even the steam you inhale will contain fluoride. Water for animals, trees, and
vegetable gardens will be fluoridated. Everywhere you go the coffee, the tea,
the O.J., the soup, the glass of drinking water the server puts on the table
will be a fluoride treatment. You will not be able to avoid fluoride, you'll
have no choice. Tell the DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND POWER that you are their
customer and you do not want fluoride in the water.

The Los Angeles Times has a reader's representative. The job of the reader's
representative is to take information from and consider concerns of readers.
Please call and give the following information to the Readers' Representative.

Will Dailey, counsel for Citizens for Safe Drinking Water filed for a
      temporary
restraining order to stop fluoridation until the case he had filed could be
litigated. He also rescheduled a hearing set for August 6 because he was
leaving town for a few weeks. John Reed, Judge of Department 55, rescheduled
the hearing for September 8. He took the request for a restraining order under
advisement, but did not inform counsel that he would refer it to Department
      86,
requiring Will to file a new request for a restraining order at a time when
      the
judge knew Will would be out of town.

When called, Department 86 said they expected Will on August 6, despite Will's
prior explanation to Judge Reed that he would not be in town on that date. The
result is that Citizens for Safe Drinking Water was effectively denied the
opportunity to file for a temporary restraining order before fluoridation
began. Department 86 was unable to explain why Reed did not tell Will he would
need to file a new motion in a different department, which would have given
      him
the opportunity before he left town. If I were a reporter for the Los Angeles
Times, I would be interested in asking some questions.

Please ask the readers representative to have a reporter look into this
irregular handling of the request for a restraining order. Also ask why they
have not had anybody write an op ed piece presenting the reasons not to
fluoridate. Readers Representative telephone number is 877/554-4000
