remember water-crashing it except for one time that I was in a tidal
creek where the current was about headed downwind at 4 kts and wind
only 6 or so, and lines kept going slack! For me XXXL is useable over
5-6 kts and starts getting too wild over 12 or so. I'm 200# on 7'2"

I doubt it. The brake line would likely tangle. You wouldn't be able to
change line lengths. The reason I mention that is because it's another
reason for having a reelbar with a foil: 1) No line tangling, 2) variable
line length, 3) No laying lines on ground to launch, 4)...? What's your
reason? (you don't seem concerned about the 3 I've listed).

No, not that big a difference. To be sure, 5-6 is on the low side,
probably 6-7 is more real. And for me that means stuggling to stay up
on a plane, looping the kite, and certainly no upwind, jumping or
anything like that. But I've done it , to be sure. To me "usable"
means you can get out and do something - anything - while windsurfers
just sit on the beach. Now I'm also 8 lbs heavier too than at the
time. 22# would be different, a little anyway.

              Hi Todd,
Oh yeah, I forgot one possibly critical detail:  this is with handles, not a bar!  And in such low wind I have to really work the kite hard.  I'm not sure it would be possible with a bar, I'd be surprised if you could turn it fast enough to keep it well powered.  Anyway, that might account for at least some of the difference.

                  I went from 220 to 190#s and use a 9.0ATK and
215 fone, it made huge difference. my friend is
155#, on the exact same rig/board, he would be
powered in even less. at 220# it took 11kts, at 190#s
                  about 9-10kts and at 155# about 8kts.
