Birders: The highlight of a very birdy trip to California City, in
eastern Kern County, was a female AMERICAN REDSTART. Other warblers
included COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, NASHVILLE, ORANGE-
CROWNED, YELLOW, and WILSON'S. A single RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was
doing it's whirling-dervish imitation on a pond in CC. A single
small tree hosted 5 WARBLING VIREOS, to give you an idea how common
those were. Other migrants included WESTERN TANAGERS, BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAKS, WILLOW FLYCATCHERS, and PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS.
