3/5/13: 6 Red Crossbills at Scodie Park in Onyx
Red Crossbill was found for the second time this year at Scodie
County Park in Onyx - one on 1/15/13 and six today, 3/5/13, around 9:30am.
Today one was first heard toward the SW corner of this two acre park.
Immediately one responded from the tall pine tree overhead at the NE
corner of the park. Not too long after two crossbills flew out from
the tall pine making a racket. The second bird was nice, red adult
male. Very soon after that four more crossbills joined the two as
they noisily flew about overhead just above tree top level.
Many years ago during a late April Kern River Valley Biofest, Red
Crossbills were present in Scodie Park. So, the precedent has already
been set for Red Crossbills possibly lingering at Scodie Park well into April.
Continued Happy & Productive Birding,
