Birders: This weekend, the VARIED THRUSHES continue at Hart Park,
northeast of Bakersfield. Today, three were feeding on the ground in
the grove of trees directly north of Mirror Lake. HOODED MERGANSERS
continue in numbers along the canals of the park as well as on Lake
Ming. A singleton CASSIN'S KINGBIRD was in the very top of a tree
toward the east end of the group picnic area, east of Lake Ming. The
kingbirds have been sporadic and hard to find for the past two months.
I didn't have the arm strenth to find the White-throated Sparrow among
the hundreds of Lark and White-crowned sparrows along the fence between
the group picnic area and the golf course. An hour of scanning didn't
produce it. It's almost as bad as warbler neck!
