      1) If your cutting mat has cuts full of fabric fibers, it's time to change the blade in your rotary cutter. Mary W.

      2) For clean points when paper piecing, start at the wide end of a triangle and sew toward the point. That way you don't sew over the bump of the previous seam. Carole H.

      3) I always seem to have more than 1 project going at the same time. In order to keep them straight, I put each one in a different bag with a zipper top. This includes my thread, everything. When I have a long trip or have to sit at the doctors office for any length of time, I have a project ready to go and be worked on while I wait. Allison P.

      Show & Tell

Here is a beautiful quilt from one of our readers. Thanks to all of you that submit and share your quilts and stories.

Although this is not a quilt, I'd love to share. As the cooler season approaches I thought a nice dress-up sweat suit jacket would be nice, so this is the one I created. It's not difficult to do and you can play with the designs to suit yourself. Donna

If you'd like to check out even more wonderful quilts and quilted items made by our readers, go to our Show & Tell page.

If you'd like to submit your quilt to our Show & Tell page, just e-mail your picture and story, 50 words or less please, to Terrye at the following address.

You can also mail a non-returnable picture along with your story to the following address.

      Did You Know?

I had someone write to me recently asking about something I ran long ago called, "Color Psychology". I couldn't find the original article, but did find facts relating to this subject, that are pretty close to what we ran in the past. Basically it's how people react to different colors that they view. As relating to quilting, you can appreciate how different colors automatically catch your eye, but do you think about how they can make you feel? Here's probably more than you ever wanted to know about the subject!

      Color Psychology

Red-Symbolizes love, power, fire, passion, aggression, blood, excitement and heat. This color can elevate your blood pressure and respiratory rate. It can stimulate you into making quick decisions and have high expectations. Words and objects that are in red are an immediate attention grabber, which is why red is a popular color of car that is stolen frequently. A very extreme color, red clothing can be uplifting and convey energy and power, but also may invite confrontation. Red should be used as an accent color, not as a background as it is so dominating. Red accents are favored by many bars and casinos as it causes people to lose track of time. Restaurants also favor this color in their decor because it will stimulate the appetite.

Yellow-Represents playfulness, light, cheerfulness, warmth, creativity and an easygoing attitude toward life in general. Bright lemon yellow is the most eye-fatiguing color. Light is reflected by this color, resulting in excess stimulation on the eyes, which also causes eye irritation. Yellow speeds up metabolism, enhances concentration and kick starts the brain, but is hurtful to our eyes. Paint a room yellow and you will make babies cry and grown-ups lose their tempers in it. When used in small doses, yellow will bring on sensations of warmth and brightness, as inviting as a warm sunny day. But like sunlight, you want it there to feel good, not right in your eyes. A softer tint will be much more pleasant to behold. When it comes to yellow, shade choice is important. Sunny yellow is the most visible colors of all and the number one attention getter but a dingy yellow represents decay, sickness, jealousy, duplicity and caution.

Blue-Represents sadness, depression, wisdom, loyalty, solitude and trust. Blue is the most popular color, favored by both men and women. Wear blue to a job interview to show your dedication and loyalty. The color blue is a natural appetite suppressant and can be repulsive in some instances. Lighter blue relaxes our nervous system and has a sobering effect on the mind. A great bedroom color as it causes the body to produce calming chemicals, making you feel peaceful and tranquil. Darker blues can have a different effect however, making you feel cold and depressed. When reading info written in blue text, people seem to retain more of it.
