      Kaye Wood's Quilting Newsletter

      Wednesday, February 27, 2008

      Our Home Page
Access to all the goodies on the Kaye Wood website!

Hey everyone! I don't know if you have realized it, but February has been kind of a unique month this year. February, 2008 has 5 Fridays this year, but not only that, the month started and will end on a Friday. Last week, we had an awesome lunar eclipse for all to view, and our month will end with Leap Day! That's quite a bit going on for the shortest month of the year!
The whole Leap Day concept was very interesting to me as a child but as an adult, I honestly couldn't remember all of the details about it. So, to the internet I went, to educate myself once again about this day. The concept is very simple, we have Leap Years to help keep the calendar consistent with the Earth's rotation around the Sun. The Earth rotates around the Sun once every 365 and about 1/4 days. By adding an extra day every four years, they are able to keep the calendar on track. Leap Day typically happens just about every four years, but there is an exception to the rule. Years which are divisible by 100 are not Leap Years, unless they are also divisible by 400, in which case they are Leap Years! Have a headache yet? I suddenly remember why I chose to block this bit of info out! I say we leave the calculating to the professionals and just enjoy the day! Have a great week!

      Show & Tell
Here is a beautiful quilt from one of our readers to view! Thanks to all of you that submit and share your quilts and stories with us! I know everyone enjoys them as much as I do!

This is the quilt I made for our first Great-grandson! I wanted something bright and happy and I think I accomplished that, as I just felt good, everytime I worked on it! I also wanted a quilt that he could use for many years to come. I machine quilted it using, "stitch in the ditch" on the edge of the colored balls and along the sashing. This gave the same design on the reverse side of the quilt. I am very proud as I am not an accomplished quilter, but I do think I am on my way! Judy
