The Indian Council for Mental Health (ICMH) is hosting its Fun Fair 2006 at its Skills and Ability School, Plot no 9, sector 11, Nerul on Saturday, February 4 from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

ICMH has been working in the field of mental health for the last sixty-one years and since 1990 has provided education, treatment, therapy and rehabilitation to children with developmental disabilities through its School programs.  Presently, these services are extended to 163 children divided between the two Skill and Ability Schools at Nerul and Mulund.  The students include children who are hearing impaired, mentally challenged and those with cerebral palsy, autism and downs’ syndrome

The Fun Fair is a joint effort of the teachers and parents of both Nerul and Mulund Schools to organize the children for a cultural evening along with stalls managed independently by children. The children would be managing game stalls which are generally based on some specific skill which may be a challenge but an achievable goal for children with special needs like a refraction game, needle and thread bead, sand games and others.  The parents would also be partnering the children at the stalls section. This section covers a range from eateries to games, home made products and artifacts.

The Fun Fair is an event organized by the schools to create a platform for its students to demonstrate their talents and also explore their capabilities to their fullest. The event ensures involvement and participation of each and every student of the Schools. The objective of the event is to build confidence in the children and also showcase their talent. It’s a day for parents to feel proud of the hidden abilities that exist in their child of which they may not be aware. It’s a day for the teachers to raise their head and say yes that’s my student. It’s a day for all to realize that these children are very much a part of society and need to be treated with equality and respect.
