Group Description

This group is for the discussion of practical solutions to the issue of canine genetic disease. The focus here will be on positive solutions using sound genetic principles for the benefit of the health of ALL dogs. Concepts will include understanding genetic principles and applying them to genetic disease seen in dogs, discussion/understanding of specific diseases, interpreting research results for practical application, recognizing the benefits and limitations of genetic testing, promoting research and understanding the inevitable pitfalls in research participation etc. The focus is how to make dogs as healthy and sound as possible given the current understanding of genetics and the rapidly evolving science surrounding canine genetics.

All list members are welcome to share their experiences. If you have good ideas, are an expert, a novice or just want to learn, discuss or bounce around new ideas with others who care about this topic--please join us! People often hold beliefs with conviction and devotion but genetics is not personal. Scientific disagreement are often heated. Heated scientific debate is welcome but discussions are expected to remain civil and list members are expected to treat each other with mutual respect and consideration.
